Okay so im encountering a strange problem. I have a window in my project which i have chosen to modify in the family editor. The change I made was simply changing the material of both the glass panes with a picture of outdoor scenery. After the successfull material changes in the family editor I reloaded the family back into the project and the scene updated with my material changes. All appeared to be okay. I rendered it but then decided to adjust the materials further as to produce a more realistic render. Instead of going into the family editor this time i chose to adjust the materials using the material paramaters for the family within the project. When i went to adjust the materials (adding self illumination and transparecy options) i realized the uploaded image didn't appear uploaded and instead a brown color took the place of the image i had uploaded in the family editor. Strange thing is the material in 3d view didn't display as brown but rather the image i had uploaded...... In a confused and desperate attempt to troubleshoot, i decided to go back into the family editor and change the settings there because i figured perhaps if it worked that way the first time it would work that way again. So i adjusted the material options in the family editor as i had done origionally with the images but instead of the changes carrying over into the project like it had done before, none of my new changes uploaded. This is extremely strange and im not sure if some sort of visibility overide or something is affecting my material adjustments but no such overides were made by me so i have no idea whats happening.

Someone please shed some light on this strange occurance as im yet again baffled by the functionality of this program. Thanks.

In Revit, the project always rules.  For instance, thake a material like aluminum.  Maybe in your project, you want all your aluminum to be anodized white so you set the material that way.  Then you load another family that has a material called aluminum in it and it was set at anodized bronze.  What do you think should happen?

THE PROJECT RULES.

So this means you can change the material all you want in the family but once it is set in the project, the project will over-ride the family.  You options once it is already loaded are to change it in the project, or if the material is unique to only this family, you can delete the family form the model and now re-load it.
