Hey guys!
I am in my last quarter of my Drafting (associates) program and we were given a project to create and design, from scratch, a boutique hotel. We were given the piece of land. There is a group of 3 of us and I was given the task to research and that is such a broad subject
Problem is that I have 9 weeks to complete this task in its entirety and every single detail should be designed & put together by us, but none of us had the material taught to us in the previous quarters (though we were supposed to). The team, thogh they are wonderful people have quite a bit of broken communication so I just want to do the best that I can to make sure that I pass, even if its lifting other team members on my back.
I feel quite overwhelmed and dont know where to start in the design process. If anyone could assist me in making a task list of what are the most important things to research first, or a check list or a nudge in the right direction, I would be most appreciative.
Thank you guys!

if the piece of land is real world site, you might consider talking to the local planning authority at the relevant shire or county council.
they can assist with various things like max building envelope heights, carparking requirements if any).
then its up to you to do what every firm does, dream up a scheme that is buildable, and a client will pay for !
hotels would have entry foyers, stairs, lifts, ramps and obviously rooms for paying guests ( single, double, family suites, penthouse etc), dining room(s) bars, maybe a gym, commercial kitchen, storage and ldry etc, public toilets, male, fem and hcap accessible. the whole building needs to be accessible for the disabled..
buildsing codes nominate sq' or m2 for each patron in a dining room or nightclub setting, also setout max distances for egress ( say from door to room to fire rated stair in corridors).
u need to consider access for supply of food, linen etc,etc and then waste removal.
also, any views to consider? orientation for energy efficient design, fire safety, egress from building etc, etc, should keep you busy for 9 weeks easy.
also pool or outdoor relaxation area maybe.
good luck
