I have googled this and searched forums but i do not get the answer i need. I want to hide the light fixtures in my ceiling when I render in Revit but want to the light source to remain.

I have changed the fixture family to glass transparent but they are still visible when rendered. Any ideas?

I suggest you add a yes / no parameter to the family to control the visibility of the parts of the light you want turned off just like any other family.

You have the ability to 'turn off' the visibility of any part in any family.

Practical Example: You have a window family and you want the option to have the trim visible or not visible. Or muntins visible or not visible.

I believe your problem is a material one.  In oder for a light to show up, most users set the lens material to "glow" - turn that off.
