My Revit file will crash once in a while and I believe it has to do with a corrupt AutoCAD file. It seems to work again after I purge, detach xrefs & audit the AutoCAD file but that means that I have to go through this process each time a new consultant drawing is updated. Thoughts on how to avoid this?

You mean linked CAD not xrefs....
If auditing the consultant's file is the problem then it is something in that file. Have your consultant audit his file before he sends it to you.
