Is it possible to locate central files on a cloud based system i.e. Autodeck 360, Google drive, dropbox?  To allow access by different users and locations?

By the way, I'm using Revit 2014 and 2015.

Thanks

Phil

The quick answer is no.

When dropbox "syncs" it overwrites the computer's file that needs to be synced - completely replacing the central model.  if you need to sync between locations you need to use Revit Server.

http://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/revit-products/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2015/ENU/Revit-Server/files/GUID-3FAF98F5-AD5B-4146-B503-FF9373571ABB-htm.html

Now... if someone only needs to see it and not modify it, then you could use a service like dropbox and manually place a file there for your consultants to re-download and update daily.  But it would not be the central file.

You could also try Autodesk 360. Seems better than all the other could services especially if you deal with Revit files.

We use it to transfer files back and forth to our consultants, but there's also a active back-up directory where the latest file gets automatically backed up to A360 (provided you're logged in from your software). It's pointless to us, but it might be what you're looking for.

all cloud based services (including autodesk 360) would have the same effect on a central model. [a very bad effect]

but would work well to coordinate on a file daily schedule using 360.

Thanks for your responses, its kinda as I thought.

Had hoped that there might be something out there where we didnt need a traditional network setup and instead use a cloud based system.

The way to do what you want is to use something like remote desktop where you run a system that is on a network where your local and the central are loctated.  I think this will basically be the situation for many of the cloud services.  I work at home by using remote desktop to a sytem in my office.
