Hi there.

Currently using Revit 2014 on Windows 7.

We have a survey created from an external source which we would like to import into Revit to use for the site toposurface. The survey was created using a program called MultiPlane.  The file was supplied to us in a .dwg format however Revit would not read the information in the file so our next idea was to try importing the .txt file data instead.  The .txt file contained only x, y and z points as per Revit Help (see attached).

Both times Revit would not read the information and no toposurface was created.

Any ideas on how we are able to still utilise the information provided to us in these formats and be able to create the toposurface?

Our only other alternative would be to get another survey done which ultimately would cost money etc.

Any help or ideas is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Both the CAD import process and the points process are pretty straight forward.  Your process may be incorrect.  Without looking at youf files, we don't know if the data is incorrect.  Try a different CAD file in a test project.  If that still doesn't work then look at your process and follow the Help.

Just an update, had to manually create the toposurface from the given x,y,z co-ordinates.

The .txt file was not set up correctly when our consultant created it so Revit wouldn't read the information.

Thanks for your help anyway.

for the future you could try to open a generic family, and import the CAD file into the rfa then load that generic family file into your project. The generic family template works well because when you window in objects in the project, the generic family will not be included in the selection.

FYI, in case you are not aware. I seem to have better luck when I get a CAD file to convert all the objects to one layer, delete the rest, and rid the file of any XREFs, then save up tp AutoCAD 2014, and use the convertto3dsolid command, and select all. and make sure your "hideprecision" is set to one. Do all this before you imort the CAD file into the generic model RFA, hasn't failed me yet.

If you have any grid lines, or anything like that you can line the family up with something in our project, and pin th family. This is a "last act of a desperate man" technique i do.
