So I want to make a roof based family, a stack vent for plumbing fixtures. really I just need a pipe, always to stay vertical. even when the roof slope is not flat.

so I make a simple extrusion with the "roof based family generic", but the extrusion stays perpendicular to the roof so its at an angle on any roof thats sloped. what is the parameter I need to keep the pipe vertical, but end at the roof and get cut off nicely at the roof line.

see lame sketch :-)

THanks in advance.

Michael

This had me interested... so I created a roof based model.

I checked the box "always vertical" in the  family category and parameters.

I added a void to cut the roof and extended it a good ways both directions

I added a solid to represent the roof vent pipe.

I didn’t mess with the square at the bottom.  It was clumsy and fighting me (not working).

give it a go maybe you can figure it out.  Repost your results!

Worked great! thanks for showing the vertical setting, would have never gotten to it on my own.
