would anyone happen to know anything about a update, or something regarding hardware would cause revit 14 to crash, and windows to give a graphics card failure warning from the taskbar. and being able to get into revit menu screen, but as soon as you try and open anything the openning window goes away, and you waet a "older" looking warning window preventing you from going any further, but give it about ten mins, and you can open anything and keep on trucking. very strange. any sugestions?

I guess I wasn't thinking when I asked that. I meant to ask what Windows version you were using (I'll assume windows 7 or 8/8.1 for this) and if it's a laptop or a desktop (I'll assume it's a desktop). There can be many reasons this is happening, that GPU/graphics card is more than enough to run Revit so it can't be a specification issue. I would say it is one of the following that is causing this:
- The PCIe slot on the motherboard is defective ~ You can troubleshoot this by trying the graphics card in another system and seeing if the problem persists. If you don’t have another system I would at least take out the graphics card and clean out the PCIe slot as much as possible as there might be something inside it that is blocking its communication with the motherboard.
- A recent driver update is interfering with the GPU's compatibility with the program ~ Have there been any recent updates from Nvidia that were installed? Also if you haven’t updated in a while it usually helps to fully un-install your current drivers and install the newest ones from Nvidia.
- The GPU is overheating ~ Less likely but still possible as you mentioned waiting ten minutes fixes it. If you can, make sure the heatsink on the graphics card is free of any dust and there is nothing blocking the fan plus it is working properly.
- The GPU isn't strong enough to handle Revit (of course it is)
If none of these work let me know and I can try my best to help you get this fixed and working.

We have experienced crashes with Quadro FX 3800 /Win 7 + revit 2014 Update2 and were promissed by the department that tests cards at Autodesk that an Revit 2014 update would include our card in the certified list. However that did not happen and it also does not solve the problem. What seemed to have helped was to update the graphic card drivers to the latest version - since that revit / the graphic card driver has not been crashing.
