I'm doing interior elevations and I wanted to assign a View Template to the elevations to make the crop region print to a specific lineweight. When I put an interior elevation view on a sheet, I can turn on the "Crop Region Visible" setting to allow me to tweak the crop region and align it to the walls, floor and ceiling of my elevation view. But as soon as I assign my view template to that view, the crop region disappears. The "Crop Region Visible" box is still checked in the Properties menu, but the region boundary is no longer visible on the sheet. I've even tried hitting the Tab button, but still no luck. Furthermore, when I remove the View Template, the crop region still doesn't come back. The only way for me to get the crop region back is to delete the view from my sheet entirely, then bring it back in.

Has anyone else had this problem?

I'm using Revit 2014 with the latest updates.

I think I just figured it out:

I had all of my Interior Elevation tags on a design option so that they would only show up on enlarged plans. Apparently, the crop region is always set to whatever design option its corresponding elevation tag is set to. The View Template I had created still had the Visibility Settings for Design Options set to "<Automatic>" instead of my specified design option. When, I removed the View Template, it didn't restore the Visibility Settings back to my design option. I had to manually change it back. Once I did, the crop region appeared again.

I also learned that there apparently is no setting in the View Template that will globally change the lineweight of a crop region boundary (unless someone has found a workaround). Otherwise, I have to change those manually by right-clicking and Override Graphics in View by Element for each view.

Are you sure this is not just a print issue caused by the print settings as shown in the attached image?

You say the latest updates.... but what are they?  You say updated but maybe not.

We have not seen anyone describe this issue before.

  • Is it possibly a graphics card issue?  << Maybe but doesn't seem likely
  • Is it possibly a corrupted file? << Try another file and see if it works OK there
  • Is it possibly a corrupted sheet? << I have had to delete and create new sheets before.

I just read your second post.  Good information there - I have never seen design options control a view.  That may be a BUG - I would report this to AutoDESK.

I was afraid that might be the case. I'll be sure to report it to Autodesk. Thanks!

yes, there is no way to override graphics crop regeion globally, i must do it manually for each view, so it is waste of time. or don't i know the way?

I had this problem too where the adjustable dashed line crop boxes disappear from the elevation tags in the plan view after assigning an elevation view template to the elevation view. Then, the dashed line crop region didn't come back after unassiging the template attempting to get them back. The answer was pretty simple and logical. The view template had changed the Far Clipping Visible parameter to No Clipping. I just reassigned the view template to the elevation and checked Far Clipping by Line. Then crop lines came back in the elevation tags in plan view.

Hope this helps someone.
