I'm having trouble arranging the sheet index on a project with a Structural link and an MEP link.
After I had the Structural engineer add the parameters "Discipline" to his model and fill the parameter in with STRUCTURAL for each sheet, it appeared in my sheet index as expected.
However, the MEP model already had the parameter Discipline as well as many other parameters similar to those found in the architectural model. After they filled their Discipline parameters out with ELECTRICAL, PLUMBING, etc. respectively for each sheet, these values do not appear in my sheet index. Instead, those parameters remain blank in my sheet index, even though I've opened their model to check for myself and found the fields filled out correctly.
What isn't right?
One difference between the two models is that the MEP does have worksharing enabled and the Structural does not. The structural model has very few project parameters at all, like 5, where the MEP has dozens.

We set up a schedule for each discipline (structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing etc) and filter by sheet number. For example, all plumbing sheets typically start with a P so set your filter by sheet number begins with P. Be sure to check the 'include elements in linked files' box on the fields tab. It's a fairly simple and straight forward approach.

RLAKES,
Your problem may be that the parameter used by your consultants is really not the same parameter. The name is not what maters as much as where the parameter is really defined. Discipline is a stock revit parameter but it is not typically assigned to sheets. Did you assign this as a project parameter to sheets just in your project and possibly pass that on to structural - how? Shared parameters have to come from a common definition. You can write out shared parameters to a shared parameter file that you can then give to your consultants to use. You can write that out from a project or a family. Read in your HELP:
Exporting Shared Parameters to a Shared Parameter File
