First off I'm in Revit 2014 for what it's worth.

A while back I modeled a dock layout for a marina which has began being built and is now in construction.  Now the owner has come to me wanting to build another new floating dock south of the first one I modeled about 400'.  I'm not sure what would be the best way to go about attacking this due to my lack of experience in Revit (I'm about a year in).  Should I start a completely new file and treat the new area as a separate project or is there a way I can go into my model and add the new area?   The thing that I'm most unsure about is that if I go into the existing model and start adding the dock to the existing file, will it mess up my views and sheets that have already been stamped, printed and are out the door?  I'm curious as to what you guys would do?  Also in addition when I started the original file almost a year ago I had no idea (didn't take the time as a mistake on my part as a newbie) how to set up true north / project north, I just modeled it.  Can I go back and change project north / true north in this file or would that just completely whack things out?  How do you guys handle doing say two different builds almost 400' apart? For the most part I know I could get away with just starting a new model for the new marina but I know at some point they would probably like to see an "overall" and it wouldn't have my first design in the file.  I guess it would be an option to just start a new file and then when I'm finished somehow import the other model in?  I'm not exactly sure on what the best practice here is.  I'm not sure if this is understandable or not but if it isn't I'd gladly answer any questions in order to find the best practice from you guys / gals.  Any advice is appreciated.

If you have details and components from the first project that you will use in the second, copy the first file, give it a new name then alter it as required.  Try to get the most from this file including sheets/views/notes.

You can link in the other model if you want to see them both together in a view.  Don't worry about x-y-z.  Move the link to where you need it.  There is no need to really set your project / survey location in your case.
