I continue to get the "Nothing will be divided " error message when attempting to divide a part.  Is there a key step I'm missing?

View is set to shot "Parts".  I can select the parts (in this case a layer of the floor).  I can see the shape handles along the outside boundary of the part and manipulate them, but cannot getthe usual sketch tools to subdivide the part into areas.

Very frustrating.

If anyone else has had, and been able to overcome, this problem.  Help will be appreciated.  I could just draw dumb lines on the plan, but that wouldn't be BIM.

I had the same problem until I reset my reference plane to the surface of whatever I was dividing (a wall in my case.)  For a floor you should just be able to use a plane that's parallel with the floor (leve 1, level 2, etc.)

After selecting divide parts and entering sketch mode, choose the set reference place button and choose pick a plane.  Then select the surface of the floor you are trying to divide.  This is easily done in a 3D view.  Draw your sketch as usual.  Remember, you do not have to make closed loops with the sketch, just make sure you divide into two or more parts.

I used this on a board and batten wall to great success.
