Hello RevitCity, I'm new around here (and in Revit) so bare with me if I ask some stupid questions!

So basicly I've just moved from Autocad LT to Revit LT (I know there are some limitations) and this does ofcourse effect my workflow conciderably. I know that if i do nto set up proper templates and methods of doing certain things I will succumb to lazines and end up losing hundreds of effective work hours in the next few years.

One of the challanges I've come across is the way I have always listed the parts of walls, floors and roofs in my sections (This is generally how you do it around here)

In my perfect world I would be able to make a list of all the wall, floor and roof types avaivable in my project and place the list on my section sheet

So now to the actual question: What approach should i be making here, from what I've gathered and tested out i can make it as a schedule (will this list all the families loaded or only the existing objects?).  Or I can use Key notes and supply additional information in a seperate file. Or i can use some kind of annotation..? Or i could simply add a text listing it manually like I have always done in Acad (ouch).

I'm not asking for someone to make this for me (The experience from doing things like this is very good on its onw!) but I ask what you think would be the most sensible approach for me to take?

Thanks in advance, regards Robert

Im not sure what you have available in LT but we use material notes.  That means you have to maintain your material library and assign the correct material to each layer.  So for instanve, a wood stud wall might have a material note "2x4 WOOD STUDS @ 16" oc" or a different material if insulated "2x4 WOOD STUDS @ 16" oc w/ BATT INSULATION"

Yes that is possible in LT, and whatever way i go I'll probably need to do the material library thing...

With Material note do you mean Material tag? I tried using a template one but I'd rather not have to select every different part of an object, Is it possible to have something similar that just gives me a list of materials inside one element/object?

Sorry, I do mean material tag.

In full Revit, all materials can be scheduled.

Ah yes, I've been using the regular Schedule (Maby you can use this aswell, no idea) but trying now with Material Takeoff i was able to get something close to what i need! (all the data i need, just a matter of cleaning up)

Follow up kind of stupid question (i guess) I really like to have a column with the material width, this i could do by using a calculated field (volume/area), while this does work it feels kind of stupid, is it possible to just add a parameter for the material width? (Does not exist in my templates)

Also thanks again for taking your time with my questions

There is no way to get material "width" automatically and I don't see where it will be beneficial.  Thickness can be part of the name for the material. You can also add a parameter to materials from within the project. (or template)
