I've been trying to change some of the components that I've downloaded from RevitCity (mostly materials, but sometimes I need to make minor size changes, too).  I can edit them after double-clicking the component within a project, but when I save them and then reload into the project, it doesn't keep the changes.

Are there some families that just CANNOT be edited, or do I need to edit them a different way?  Or is there some critical step I am missing?  I swear I've edited stuff before and been able to put it back into the project with my changes.

Example: I downloaded a fountain file and it was perfect except for the materials (which isn't really a big deal, but it'll look out of place when I go to render it).

-Double Click on the fountain to open in family editor mode

-Manage Materials, change the stone material image to one of the material I would like to use.

-Check in 3D view, stone material is in fact changed to the new material

-Save as New Family, Import into project, override existing parameters

-Fountain still has original stone material.

There are others that show a 3D image with material in the searched list, but when I download and load into project, they are just gray...I can go in and change the materials/images, but still get nothing.  What am I missing here?

The PROJECT RULES when it comes to materials.  If your material is called "Stone" in your family and is grey and you have a material called "Stone" in your project that is brown your "Stone" material from your family will automatiacally take on the material from the project.  You need to change the material in the PROJECT not in the family, if you want to change it in the family you need to give it a unique name that does not exist in the project.
