I am unsure how to change it to attach to the surface of a ceiling. Any suggestions?

I am sure there is something simple that I am missing. When I tried to place it on a ceiling in the reflected ceiling plan, it installed on the side of the ceiling not the face. I cut a section through the ceiling, tried to install it and it only installed on the side of the ceiling again. Are you placing it on the face of your ceiling without any problem? If so, what could I have turned on or off that doesn't allow that?

This family seems to default to "place on vertcal face" change that to place on face.
