I created an existing drawing of a builidng that is being renovated, and went on to create a new project for the proposed. I now have realized that it would be far better if I used phases. So, how would I import the proposed drawing into the existing as a phase of the existing project?

Turn on worksharing in both projects, window all of the items that are existing /new in both projects and change them to the correct phase.  Once you do that you can link in one project to another.

I would open both projects in the same session and from an overall plan view that includes all object, copy them from one project and paste them in the other.

You can also link one of the projects into the other then bind it in.  You need to study up on this process.  The bound model is a group which you can then ungroup.  Make sure to delete the group definition after ungrouping.
