We have been using Revit for years and have never seen this.  It must be something in the families you are using.  Has your company modified the stock families?

Revit 2014 has 2 updates - make sure those are installed.

You can't add a wall to a door legend.  I would add linework if that is really required.

Those boxes showed on our door legend too, we are using Revit 2013.

You may click "Edit" for "Visibility/Graphics Overrides", turn off everthing except "Door".

If you want to show the wall in plan view, just use the linework as suggested by WWHub.

When you select the legend component of the door, you can enter "Host Length" under Modify > Lengend Components.

Fill in a length, longer than your door, and a generic wall will appear.

Has anyone figured out how to control (or even identify) the type of generic wall used in the plan view door legend component when you set the "Host Length" setting to a value wider than the door?  In my experience, it looks like it's about 6" thick, but it can't be snapped to for dimensioning or measuring.  Crying...and, Legends would be SO MUCH MORE USEFUL if the Revit team would get around to adding the ability to tag legend components, and mixed categories of components, with more flexibility!)
