Hi Guys!

I am in school for drafting and am working on an architectural project on Revit 2012. Attached are pictures of the house that I am trying to create in Revit. If you notice it seems as though the roofs are sectioned off and all but one side have no defined slopes. I figured out how to create this, but am having trouble with the gaps and with the walls. some parts, like the garage and the first room (to the left of the front door) have an extrusion or walls that stick out, but that are not attached to the main roof, but have a small flat roof. When adding the main roof I cannot join the wall where the lower roof sits, to the main roof. I would imagine that Id have to tackle this as a 2 story, but Im not sure. Any suggestions or anyone willing to help me with this. All your help and lnowledge is greatly apreciated!

I need to finish this project ASAP because I already need to start cutting my boards for a scaled model that needs to be done within a week or so.

Thanks alot everyone!!!!

we call those main roofs skillion.

for the sq bay window, just draw the main wall as normal, attach to main roof and cut in wall opening to suit the bay window size

minus the bay window wall thickness each side.

then tackle the lower wall and roof.

As usual there are many ways to create things in Revit. For the wall protrusion on the left of the blonde person I would just run a seperate wall arond in the layout that you want. Then make the 3 walls that consist of the protrusinon stop at at the height you want them to. You can put a flat roof on it at the height you want. You can control roof heights with varying levels in the elevation, call them; "'Main roof" ""porch roof"" "bay roof'' etc. So you don't need a 2nd storey.

YOur roofs need to align with the edge of the roof or it will not extend up to it.

Like mansell said for the bay window you need to create an opening in the main wall to show the opening of the bay window.

I will be scoring goals soon, I'm in the back line at the moment!

FIRSTLY, THANK YOU GUYS SO MUCH FOR ALL THE HELP! AND I APOLOGIZE IN ADVANCE FOR ASKING QUESTIONS THAT MAY HAVE AN OBVIOUS ANSWER, BUT I AM ONE OF THOSE VISUAL LEARNERS - I SEE IT ONCE IM GOOD TO GO, BUT TRYING TO LISTEN TO SOMEONE TELL ME HOW IS A LITTLE MORE CHALLENGING FOR ME, ESPECIALLY WHEN IM A NOOB IN THIS FIELD.

IF I RUN THE MAIN WALL AND THEN MAKE A PROTUSION, WOULD THAT MAIN WALL NOT BE BLOCKING WHAT IS SUPPOSED TO BE PART OF THE INTERIOR OF THE ROOM (SECOND PROTRUSION)?

AND SECONDLY, ON TEH BAY WINDOW THERE IS A PROTRUSION, JUST LIKE THE OTHER SIDE, CAN I NOT JUST TACKLE IT THE SAME WAY AS THE OTHER SIDE? AND IF NOT HOW WOULD I CUT OUT THE WINDOW OPENINGS?

HEY GUYS, AGAIN THANKS ALOT FOR ALL THE TIME AND HELP! TAKE CARE Smile

yes the main wall would block the bay window protrusion, thats why we said create an opening in the main wall.

look under opening , then select wall opening.

from there you can insert an opening and adjust size , width and ht to suit.

it would help if you also read your help.

yes you can also copy a protrusion to another location.

then insert window etc.

okay....so as you can see, the roof looks sectioned off to get those 3 shed roofs. while trying to section them off and creating the 3 different roofs, the lines of the roofs cannot overlap, butwhen trying to get as close as possible to other roof so that there are no gaps in the roofing, i get this error message:

"This sketch defines more than one footprint.  Make sure the sketch contains only one outermost loop and that there are no loops inside inner loops."

what is it that I need to do to get it so that the roof is sectioned off and without gaps without overlapping lines or this error message?

thanks in advance!

WHICH IS WHAT I TRIED TO DO BUT THERE ARE GAPS BETWEEN, SO I TRIED TO EXTEND THE LINES OF THE ROOF , BUT THEY EITHER OVERLAP OR I GET THAT ERROR MESSAGE.

it would help if you posted a plan with the magenta coloured sketch lines where you want them. pdf is ok

so we can see what you are trying to do.

SO IM @ WORK AT THE MOMENT & FORGOT MY THUMB DRIVE @ HOME SO HAD TO ROUGHLY DO THIS ON PAINT. THIS IS APPROXIMATELY HOW I WOULD THINK THE ROOVES ARE BEING DIVIDED. PLEASE CORRECT ME IF I AM WRONG. THE BLUE OUTLINES ARE FOR THE FLAT ROOVES FOR THE PROTRUSIONS.

I AM SO SORRY IF I MAY BE ASKING SILLY QUESTIONS OR IF IM BEING A LITTLE FRUSTRATING, LIKE I SAID I AM MORE SO A VISUAL LEARNER. I FEEL LIKE IM ON THE BRINK OF UNDERSTANDING THIS, BUT IM MISSING SOMETHING.

AS ALWAYS THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP & PATIENCE WITH ME Smile
