I'm working with Revit 2012 and I'm trying to put stairs that go up 5 feet total; not from one floor to the next. How can I do this because I just keep getting the error saying I don't have enough risers

sounds like revit is looking from floor to floor to calculate the number of risers.

in stair properties set top offset to 5' above the floor you are starting the stair on.

hope this helps.
