Why all families do not have shared parameter function?….is it possible to insert this function in those where we don’t have?…….i used Metric Profile-Hosted family for slab edges & for scheduling I need shared parameters but couldn’t find shared parameters in this family……….any other family template I can use that have shared parameters for slab edges? I used Metric Generic Model template & created slab edges & solved my problem but want to know what is best practice in such circumstances.

You can add shared parameters to any family. Please download the "Families Guide" from the autodesk site to learn how.
Families are initialized with certain parameters based on their category so they will not all be the same.

This is not entirely true. Revit will not allow add shared parameters to a certain type of families, 2D families like sheets for example.
Very frustrating.

Not sure what you may be talking about, if by 'sheets' you mean titleblocks, you are incorrect. If you are having a problem doing this, you can probably find your answer if you search the forums.

I mean titleblocks, yes.
And my experience is that you can use shared parameters in a titleblock family in the Labels, but not as a Family Type Parameter (Modify - Properties - Family Types - Create Parameter - and here you should be able to choose between Family parameter and Shared parameter. But this option is greyd out.)

I'm trying to understand what you are saying but I'm lost. Can you explain with an example?

I have never come across a family that does not alow you to add a shared parameter from scratch. There are some parameters that come preloaded in families that are not editable and cannot be changed to share parameters however there are easy ways around that by simply making a shared parameter and then putting the name of it in the formula section of the parameter you cannot edit.
