Hello and good morning soon to be good afternoon,

I am curently working in the industry full time and I'm having problems with my machine.

I'm using Revit, 3ds max, and civil 3d. I use large point cloud servays, I also do large models like 6 storeys with a 80m Dia. Now I also do renderings with the same machine. Im also in and out of multie disaplines.

Now i have a precision T3600

xeon cpu e5-1650 0 @ 3.20Ghz

grapics - nvidia quadro nvs 300

16gb of ram

The rating from windows is 6.2

1st 7.8 2nd 7.9, 3rd 6.6, 4th 6.6 and lastly 5th 6.2.

what is slowing me down, when it comes to my normal uses, is it video, ram, cpu, and hard drive? Or is it all.

There are a lot factors that translate into model performace.  Obviously if you have a TON of modeled elements your computer is going to slow down as well as working with Point Clouds.  Your best bet is to make sure things are on worksets and only turn on the pointcloud workset when you need it.  Upping your performace in all categories will help but it is not cheap.  If you are looking into a new workstation you may want to take a look at http://www.boxxtech.com/boxx-workstations. However I have attached my computers specs and I don't have much problem working with large files when things are done correctly in Revit.

I can't won't say anything about your hardware but I'm with teafoe.  A lot of performance in Revit is related to your process.  If you overmodel, don't control your model using the tools available and/or have other bad habits, your system may not be a problem.

Yes I to also turn off the point clouds and only use them in sections and the section box for finding conflicts. When I use revit on its own with its components its not to bad its clean and fast, but when i start trying to work with everything else its frezzes or crashes.
