I am a newbie Revit 2014 user. I am trying to place lighting components on the reflected ceiling plan. I loaded in lighting families such as the generic Downlight - Recessed Can and a Lighting-Cove_Mount-LiteControl fixture.
When I place the Components on the ceiling, they are on top of the ceiling rather than facing down (see attached png). This is something basic about lighting fixtures that I do not understand. I very much appreciate some advice.
I have also attached my project file, called restaurant 2014.rvt.
Thanks,
-mj

Recessed can lights are above the ceiling - they are reessed. I don't know what your other fixture is.

Thanks for your reply! I'm floundering...
So you're saying the recessed cans are supposed to look like that in elevation...
The other fixture is cove lighting that I expected would hang down from the ceiling. It is called LiteControl Concealed Cover L15 LED Asymmetric Indirect Lighting and I downloaded it from Autodesk Seek at http://seek.autodesk.com/product/latest/agg/litecontrol/Litecontrol-Corporation/LC00002
Just to clarify-- So is this the way Revit works: I place the light fixtures on the top face of the ceiling plan. The fixtures are already oriented to hang down and appear correctly on the underside of the ceiling? Is that what an electrician would do if he were working from inside the attic of of new residential construction?

Ceiling plans are reflective.... what you would see if there was a mirror on the floor. A lot of light fixtures (like typical can fixtures) are mounted above the ceiling and hang down through a hole in the ceiling.
Your cove fixture is NOT CEILING HOSTED. It is face based and I believe you would place that on your wall. You will need an 'L' wall sweep to hide it like their image.

oh wow, thanks, I'm an idiot. I was looking at that L wall sleep and thought it hung from the ceiling. I'm not getting enough sleep!
