Hello all,

I have been using Revit for a while now and one thing I can't seem to find, or figure a workaround for is wall scheduling. Typing the materials and components of a wall seems very tedious and not very "smart" for a program like Revit. I was wondering if anyone here had any ideas on this.

In a more detailed explanation, if I have a wall construction with, let's say, 5/8" GB - 6" STUDS - 3/8" GB (like in the picture), is there a way that Revit can track these pieces of the wall and translate them into a schedule?

Thank you for your time!

hi hope i got your requirements clearly...

yes there is a possbile way.

select all your wall, convert them into parts.

create parts schedule and itemize those materials/structure, you can also include original category, original family, original type for tracking/sorting where they originally belong...

Hello,

I appreciate your response, and I think it might work. I will give it a try today.

This is the sort of thing I am looking for. (image) To be able to track those parts and relate them back in a schedule where we can see the type mark of the wall, etc.

I appreciate your time Smile

The tool is already built into Revit.  Your answer is a simple material schedule.

How would you go about doing this on a Material Takeoff though? I can't seem to get it straight.

That IS a material take-off.

This is what I get when I do a takeoff. It is on the right track, but it appears to be able to track only one material, not all of them. And it seems the only way this works is when you itemize every instance, in which case, it is not very "wall-schedule-like".

i think maybe your lingo is complicating things. What your asking for is more of an assembly description. Unfortunately I don't have your answer but please avoid using terms like "take-off" and "schedule" since those are built in functions of Revit.

At my office, we just type in the assembly description in plain text but I agree that it'd be neat to have this automated. Maybe there is an add-in that will do this.

I do aggree with you, my canadian fellow. I wasn't the one who introduced the word "take off" in this topic, but a schedule is what we are ultimately going for in here. This dream-like feature would make our work more precise.

The material schedule does as many materials as are in your wall or whatever you are scheduling.  You don't have to itimize every instance.

Spend some time with this and learn.  This schedule is sorted first by wall type then material.  Each material is grouped.
