Can anyone tell me what the point of the membrane layer is in walls when they dont display in plan or section. If you want to show a vapour barrier in plan/section you have to use a different layer or just draw it in using detail lines - so what do the membrane layers actually do?

(Revit 2013)

How can it show, it is hidden in the structure and it has no thickness.... It's like paint except it is located at a defined place.

Why argue?  If you don't like it, just don't use it.

BTW - You can also tag the material in section views.

There are many types of membranes, some have a few milimiters thickness, and it's therefore relevant for 1:1 - 1:5 details. We use this linetype: http://www.archigrafix.com/revit-membrane.html
