Hi all-

dones anyone have a quick way to filter layers of a wall so that when i apply the filter to a specfic views- such as plans for council..

the walls shall stay red/green accodring to conrete- or masonary hatch, but the finihses layers shall be white- or other

I know the coarse graphics state will alllow me one colour for the wall and this is not sufficient..

in other words,

i iwll have to chnage the material of thw all if no filter method can be used

Hi eli

there are 2ways on how we model: lets say i have

200mm THK brick wall

with 50mm ceramic tile with waterproofing on interior side and

25mm plaster with paint on the exterior side.

1. model the structure as one wall, then model the 50mm and 25mm as different wall type respectively. if its modelled this way, you can easily create filter for the wall's structural material.

2. but in your case i guess that you have created one wall type of brick wall structure with layering of 50mm and 25mm.

in this case, select the wall>convert to parts> then on your plan view select the "show parts">create material filter under parts categories> then apply the filter... this will allow you to change (for example) brick to green color and red color for concrete... only for this specific view.

before you insert doors and windows. change it back to "show original" so it will cut through to all of your layers.

revit 2013/14

i am still struglling with the best practice for colouring layers of  wa all/floor with solid red/blue hatch in one view and another in a another view...

i dont like the use parts system- as it is very time consuming for a large project

i would love to find the right way to select a layer/function/material and FILTER a view with these needs

and help!?!?!?!?!

I feel your pain with this one.

I had a very similar issue recently where I was asked to display a blockwork hatch on one set of drawings but remove it on another. Like you, I had walls with multiple layers that I wanted to control separately. The way I got round it in the end was one of my more ridiculous workflows. I set the material cut pattern to what I wanted for one set of drawings, plotted them, changed it to suit the second set, plotted them and changed it back.

I was surprised that there was no way proper way of achieving this but hopefully that helps.

You do understand that you can over-ride cut patterns in view by element or category and you can have different views setup that show the same objects?

i know that i can seeperate one wall from the other when it comes to fill patterns- but i cant seperate the fill paterrn per LAYER

the problem is a wall that is made of both concrete and msaaonary/stone alyers that require different colours in the coucnil submission plans-

surely REVIt should have ways of identifying the layers and creating patterns per view??

You can but if you have a composite wall type made up of say concrete, cavity then blockwork, Revit treats this as a single wall and there is no way to graphically override just the blockwork skin and leave the concrete exactly as is. Any overrides you put on the indivdual wall or category will also override the concrete and make it look the same as your block.

I too was very surprised that Revit was unable to do this. It really needs a way of filtering by material.

The only way I can think to do this is to have multiple design options in addition to your base model.  The design options would each have copies of your original walls (and probably doors).  You wold have to alter the wall types in each design option to display what you want.  In your views, in the VG, you will have the base option with one of your options set to display.  Ignore the errors for two walls/doors in the same place.

i have been thinking--

the only way to work with this issue is to use PARTS and live with the effort of sleecting specifci layers per view for the council plans...

the idea of using funny option methods etc... seems very cumboscent...

thanks all!
