Has anyone figured out the best way to create a face-based (to host to a linked model ceiling or sloped roof or sloped structure) and have it always be vertical yet have the two seperate pendant mounts automatically change heights? I have tried creating a lighting fixture, non - hosted and nesting that into a generic model face based family, then changing the category to light fixture. The family still orients to my sloped roof and structure so that wasnt the answer. I have scoured the web for any latest information on this and usually when you do a search for revit how to's and there is none it means that it cannot be done currently. Well anything can be done if given the appropriate time I just never seem to have that when coming accross a family I need to build fast. Project deadlines suck. =)

I am not necessarily asking someone to build me a family, just share your methods so I can recreate the dream.

Thanks

One problem is "always vertical" is in relation to the host.  The second problem is the changing length required.  You can't get two automatic controls.

I think you simply built a faced based family that will attach to the ceiling.  Build the base normal to the host.  Then have a  reference line from that connection at a type set angle to the host face.  Add your drop geometry along the angled with an instance based length.  Place a nested light fixture at the bottom of the drop.  Angle controlled by the angle parameter.

Now you should be able to host the type driven angled fixture and adjust the drops.....

WHOA! That only works with ceilings sloping in one direction.... An even better method.

Create a work plane based family with the light set to the work plane and each drop (above) independently set with instance lengths on each drop.  This one will work with mounting in any direction.
