ORIGO - every CAD-program has an ORIGO but not Revit. It is HIDDEN I just wonder: How to find the ORIGO? Because I want to copy and paste different parts of a building to the same file. Because linking files is good, but then you loose the possibility to work things situated files together. Or is the solution making a family of a whole building. Then you have to edit the family and you have lost contact with the other parts. The same shit with groups. You have to go into the group loosing contact with the rest And why canīt you have a special library for hidden and froozen things? I think there is a lot to make better in the Revit interface. ORIGO once moore. How to find it? Somebody who has find a way to find it?

when you link another revit file in, there is an option (under positioning) to link it in from origin to origin. Also, you can use the move tool move that linked file to the exact location you want it...

I am examining Revit Demo 5.1. I tried out the tutorial "finding the origin" Everything works as explained till step 4: "use the move tool to move the wall". I can't reach the move buttons. Only after selecting > modify. Doing so, I lose contact with the EW-NS-Elevation boxes. What am I doing wrong ?

That is correct. You have to use Modify to first select the walls before you can move them. After moving the walls the required distance you have to choose: Choose Tools > Locations and Coordinates > Report Shared Coordinates Just like in step 2 And now you can see the new values for the corner point in the EW/NS-boxes. Sorry. I did not tell the whole story. IMaking a tutorial it is easy to miss something. And one also wants to make it short - not telling every little step, Very good tutorials - video tutorials - on the program Sketchup you can find here: http://www.sketchup.com/training_windows.php Take a look on them. And then ask yourself why not there are any video tutorials on Revit made by Autodesk? It is a lot missing in support I believe your answer will be.

Thanks Mr GG. > Stupid of me I could not figure it out myself. About support Revit : You are right. I take the view that Autodesk, rather concieted, don't mind about that all. They are the biggest CAD software company with the largest user community....maybe they depend on that concerning Revit as long as ADT rules. Do you work with Revit ?

You succeded in finding the ORIGO that is fine! I am trying to learn Revit. I have no experience with ADT just AutoCad, 3DStudio. Revit is good but could be much better that is my opinion. I hope someones will make a new free "Revit" as a Sorceforge - project with a new international standard for drawing-files made with XML. In Revit you can use gbXML green building XML it is a first little beginning. But I have never seen any questions about gbXML in any forum. About the shortcomings of Revit there are pages too discuss. One little example. Having done a building with materials in Revit and then exporting it to VIZ you have to add new materials in VIZ. There are no standard for drawing exchanges. There are VRML and the better variant X3D but in Revit no! Have a look at a program called AXEL: http://www.mindavenue.com/en/home/ That is a nice program for interactivity. I believe this is a part of the future. And AXEL has an very good Graphic User Interface - GUI. there you csn find the components in the building. Not that childish one found in Revit with mostly layers, sections and groups. I have tried to do a very simple Gehry-architecture in Revit but I have gone into the wall. Gehry uses Catia - I have not tried it - but I think it is big - perhaps too big - takes a lot of time to learn and master. Have you tried Catia? There is Rhino! Tried it? A program I have looked it a little on is IronCad. I think it has a nice user interface. It can be used for architecture too. There is too many programs and no standards that is my opinion. But we are only in the beginning of the IT-revolution - but the thing is with it that we make ourselves dependent. It is better with small organizations there people can speak to each other not using electricity too communicate. The result of using electricity is a world of nice-beeing for a few - there most people never are asked about their opinion. CAD is a new Babylon!!!

@ Mr GG > About Revit - Viz > I am not at that point yet in my examination. If true .... a serious (-) About modelling Ghery-architecture: it would be nice if Revit could handle buildings like that. I am already frustated in the way Revit deals with more or less complex stairs and roofs. Most probably because I don't know Revit suffiently. Actualy I could use some help in figuring out what's manageable in Revit. I am not the Ghery type of architect but decent 3D-CAD application must allow at least "standard complexity". About Rhino, Catia, Ironcad e.o.: I know them but never gived them a serious try ... About Axel: never heard of Smile I am going to take a look at it tonight. So long ! Berlio.

Here you have a tutorial on using Revit together with VIZ: http://www.arch.vuw.ac.nz/courses/bbsc303/tutorials/viz_revit_tutorial_tara/index.html Your comment?
