Please Help !
Got as far as step 19. Louvre is sitting on the ground. Instructions are to place a dimension from the lowest point on the louvre up to the sill level. Problem is louvre is at an angle and I dont know how to select the point at the bottom. Selection only allows me a choice of the louvre edges that are all at angles and cannot be dimensioned vertically to the sill level above.

The reference planes you place in the nested family (the individual louvre) should become the reference for the dimensioning in the main family.
Make sure you set your origin appropriately and made sure the reference planes are set to be references in there properties.

Sorry but I am into my 5th hour on this and still cant get past step 19. Have double checked my origin levels and their property references. Tutorial says "define Origin" on Left vertical reference plane only. What about the horizontal plane at the base. Does it need to be defined also. Do we need to define what type of references they are, eg strong, weak, bottom etc. Their does not appear to be anything to dimension from at the base of my louvre other than the ref level that belongs to the window family. Would I be better off starting over again and creating a small horizontal section at the lowest point of my louvre so I can create the dimension link from the base to the sill level.
PS Step 10 " Checking Parameters" All worked fine. Changing Louvre angle resulting in a pivot from the origin intersection point of the left vertical plane & base horizontal plane indicating that my origin settings are locked in their correct locations.
Sorry but Desperate,
Regards Steve

Steve,
The tutorial is rather old, and i probably should update it. In the current templates the base reference plane is set to NOT a reference (by default). This didn't used to be the case.
Simply change this to be a reference such as bottom and name it as such. You will then be able to dimension to this point in the host family.
If you are still having issues, post where you are so far and i'll have a look at it when i get a chance. Working 12+ hour days these days so haven't really been able to donate much of my time to these forums of late...
