I have been using Revit for about 5 years now and I have been modelling strip foundations with the slab tool. I find by using slabs it joins correctly with pads etc. but it doesn’t necessarily mean that this is the standard way of modelling this element.

I’m really just looking for your thoughts on this matter and if there is a better way to model strip foundations.

Cheers

i dont normally model walls, the architect takes control of that element. For strip footings i just use the slab tool but i was wondering if there was other alternatives in which people use. The Wall foundation tool is good though.

I use the wall foundation tool if I have walls to use. Typically we have slab turndowns on strip footings and I use the wall tool for the footing.  I make a different wall types and rename something like “ 3’-0” Cont Ftg “ and make the wall 3’-0” wide and change and rename wall types as required.

The strip foundation works great with a solid wall without openings, but does anyone have a preferred way to have the footing be continuous beneath the opening?  We typically have 10 to 20 ft opening where the strip footing is continuous so the slab can turn down atop it.  I've modeled this using a concrete beam before, but I'd like to get other ideas since I'm still in the novice stage of Revit.

Thanks.

How about using the footing grip to stretch it to the other side and then using the Linework tool to make the seam lines invisible. See pic.

I have started to model the foundations with in place families as sweeps. I find they work well on big projects
