Hey Guys,

I work for a mechanical services construction company and we use pretty much every services drawing in ours for co-ordination etc. Currently when we get a new revit model we have to print out all the sheets and try manually review what has changed as people don't always indicate this on the sheets with clouds etc. Is there a way that we can try and compare 2 models and see what the differences are? I tried a blank project loaded a link copy'd items out of that link and monitored them then changed the link to a more current revision with changes which sort of worked but only said we have instances that need to be reviewed and didn't specify what object and where it moved etc.

We were sold this by the typical salesman saying it was easy as pie to do and revit would tell us what moved where and it would be all hunky dory but so far no dice, We want something easy and since we use 5 other services models we can't spend all day copying every item in a model etc.

Currently using revit 2013 so any help would be appreciated.

Brendan,

For what you are explaining it sounds like copy/monitor is your best option.  Contrary to your salesman its not "easy as pie" if you have never done it before or don't know what you are doing.  Spend some time with your help menu looking up the copy/monitor command.  There are also some tutorials out there that can help out.

Thanks for that guys,

We have read tutorials and all that but we can't seem to get what we want. Ideally we want to see an old layout in red or blue etc and then the new moved say run of duct in a different colour so that we can see yep the duct run has now moved say 200mm down, Is this possible with copy monitor?

We have looked at the compare model program but we are only using 2013 atm so no point as we can't test it out.

I don't believe you can copy monitor ducts.  But you can use a DWF overlay and maybe visually see the changes.

I work for a structural engineering consultant and we are looking to do the same thing. We need to track changes with imported architects models but find it hard to track every change with just drawings.  I have tried the compare model tool but it just keeps crashing.

curtins1 - If you are not using copy/monitor, then that is your problem.  Use the tools provided.

Thouroughly read the copy monitor process.  You don't have to use the architect's wall type in a copy monitor, you can use your structural wall.

Read these topics:

"Specifying Options for Copy/Monitor"

"Walls Copied to Revit Structure Are Inaccurate"

One of the great things about Revit is all the views and view controls you can have.  Copy/monitor the walls in a workset that is normally turned off.  Now you can monitor, see any moves - in a working view set up to do that.

WWHub - Apologies on this rather enduring topic but what would be your procedure be when issuing your model to other disciplines for coordination (in my case the architect) ?

Would you do nothing and just keep the wall in your model?

Or would you delete it before sending out your model?

Cheers

You don't need to do anything.

Our engineers often have their own walls and we control what we want to see from their model through our VG settings.
