I just completed my Revit 2013 course. I have studied other online tutorials, and realized I had a problem.

When I started to download a revit stacked washer/dryer I could open it. So, I realized I had to draw one. Here is my question,

when I start my first revit job, am I required to know how to create family/groups? Or, just download from their library? If someone knows of a good video, please let me know. I have bought the Revit Architecture 2013 by Paul F. Aubin, however being on only chapter 3 I don't see where I'm suppose to learn how create anything.

Please help me. Thanks in advance.

Hi fariello,

welcome to the revit world. I'm confused...you said you could open the file or did you mean you couldn't open it?

First of all, modeling your own families is very time consuming. Before you want to get into it I would suggest to better with revit itself. There are plenty of families for download on this site here, or you can go to seek autodesk as well or other internet sites.

Hope that helps...

If the firm you will work in the future have been practicing many Revit projects, there must be already good library they made. But, in my opinion, if you can't make one, it means you can't use given families appropriately.

And new famlies always necessary in a new project.

Think about it, If you could hire, who do you want to work with?

Oops....Yes, I meant I couldn't open the file.

And, thanks to all for the welcome help. This opens up new questions for myself. Do I want to get a job doing Revit, or have companies want me beacause I know and understand how Revit works.

If I hired you with the idea that you could use Revit professionally, I would completely expect you to be able to at the very least create families.  Although it is terribly time consuming there are alternatives such as Revitcity.com, BIM library, Autodesk Seek and Turbosquid.com
