I know it can be done, but I can't figure out how and WikiHelp is, as usual, useless.
I want to override the project units in a site plan view. How is this done?

Your question is not clear. Are you asking about view scale? Are you asking about dimensions? Are you asking about elevation tags? What?

Project units are for the PROJECT!
You can set up all annotations so they DON'T use project units if you want. So again, what are you wanting?

It seemed to me that I have, in the past, disabled project units in specific views by unchecking the project units box in some dialog that I can't recall and then customized the units in the particular view. In this instance I wanted the site plan at 1/40" scale to simply report in rounded feet rather than the the usual 1/8" tolerance I generally use in floor plans.
Maybe I'm just nuts. Is that not possible?

If you are talking about temprary dimensions, then that uses project units. But you can set a dimension type that rounds to whatever you need.
We only model at 1/256" and for 99% of our dimensions, that works because we model accurately and we don't see any units below 1/8". However, there are instances where we don't want any fractions or perhaps there is an element that has very small units. For those instances, we have a rounded dimension that is named accordingly.
