I have been having a problem for some time now that I have just been dealing with so I thought I would ask you guys if you had any other way of doing it to see if I can learn something.  Its about electrical symbols showing in plan.  Say I want to show electrical outlets in elevation 6" apart for whatever reason.  When I go to plan view the electrical outlet annotation symbols are overlapping each other which makes it confusing to read, but I need the outlets in elevation view to stay 6" apart.

Does anyone else run into this? Is setting up a parameter in the family to move the annotation symbol left or right off center of the model geometry to avoid overlap sound like a good idea?

Thank you in advance for any suggestions.

Symbol vs model elements with electrical has always seemed to be a problem.  We are architects - not MEP but we do criteria documents where we show electrical.  For that limited use, I don't use electrical elements with embedded symbols.  I place the symbols seperatly which really defeats Revit's standards.

Someone from the MEP side needs to change this process.  Maybe using tags instead of symbols.  The tag would have the symbol in it.   Then you would be assured it stays with the model element and yet can be adjusted.

Thank you WWHUb for responding so qucikly.

I agree with you on the tags.  I will try a tag family that could show as a symbol that way I can move it left or right as needed.

I appreciate the suggestion!
