hello, i am using revit architecture 2012
any way to add a footer at the bottom of a schedule where i would be able to include a note?

No way at this time. Add a seperate legend or add directly to the sheet below the schedule.

we always export our schedules to excel so that will not work. cannot just add the note in excel either because all further issuers of these schedules will need to know that the note will need to be added.
as a workaround, i will just have to group all the headers and use that as a footer (albeit at the top of the page rather than the bottom)

I don't think a footer is possible, but you can add a header.
