how can i show the grade line in my elevations and sections (something required by many permiting offices)? right now the toposurface is project based not sheet based and it will only be a mass not a line.

If you go to the toposurface material's property, go to the cut patten and select 'No Pattern'. In your sections and elevations you will now be left with only the surface line showing, with the depth of the surface masking everything below this line. To increase the depth of your surface masking, check out project settings...
