I am trying to get my linked structure.rvt to show the joist in my plan views. I can see it in a 3D view but not on the plan views.I have tried all my visibility options but nothing is working.

I'd assume its a View Range issue.

In plan view - show us the VG settings.

I have set my view range to unlimited and it still will not show anything

How do I show VG setting and which ones are you looking for?

Use the built-in snipping tool to create an image from your monitor of the view's VG/ model page.
If you don't know about VG - that is probably your problem. Ehile in the view, type VG.

I know how how to use the VG, I have tried all different visility options. I don't have a snipping tool in windows 8

What - They had the snipping tool in 7 and gave you nothing in 8? Really? Do you know how to do a simple screen capture?
You say you "..tried all different visility options..." Then why ask questions here.

I'm saying you may NOT have done everything in VG. You just joined so we have to assume you are new to Revit. We have been dealing with new REvit users for years and when they say "they tried everything" we know that means they tried everything THEY know. But obvously they don't know it all.
We can't answer you if you don't give us the information we need.
