Hi All!
I am trying to figure out how to label my doors and windows (curtain walls) in order to correspond with the original construction documents that I have on hand and copying into Revit. They're system is D1, D2, D2a, D3, D4 for doors and W1, W1a, W1b, W2, W3 for windows which are really a mixture of windows and curtain walls. I have gotten it set up so that when I did each individual door, I duplicated the family and renamed it to correspond to the code (D1, D2, etc.) So in my door schedule it corresponds with the category TYPE. How do I edit my annotation tags so that it will show the door type? How should I go about annotating my windows?

We typically never use type based door numbers because that requires a new type for every number. It also requires that you have a different door tag that reads the type based number instead of the instance based number. But you can do both of these. You can't, however, read the door type in a door tag. << You could create a shared parameter for this or use the door type mark with this information instead of a number. Lots of choices.
Curtain walls and windows are two different categories but that is not a problem. We use a wall tag that looks just like our window tag. For our schedule, we actually have two, one right above the other. The one is a true window schedule, the other is a wall schedule but with the same relative fields.

Thanks! How would I go about making a shared parameter to show the door type mark instead of a number? I'm sorry, I'm pretty clueless when it comes to tags in Revit.

We have to watch our terminologies here.
The Door "Type Mark" is a built in parameter as is the instance based "Mark" parameter. The built in door tag reads the instance "Mark". If you want it to read the "Type Mark" edit the tag family and edit that parameter to point to the correct veriable.
I suggest you download and read the "Families Guide" from the autodesk site.
