I am having some issues trying to get the representation lines to show the way I need them to on the roof framing plan. I need both joist lines to be shown set back from the beam they are resting on. I have them shown correctly modeled (I think) but I cannot get them to show right in the roof framing plan. If I try to adjust the start offset or extension offset to a negative number revit vomits and wants me to delete the type... Am I missing some basic concept that allows the user to better control framing members that attach to a single beam? I have this issue where two joists rest atop a beam, as well as where two joists rest atop a column; both scenarios are attached as images.

Any help would be great!

Well I was able to totally replicate tis problem. I don't know the answer but I know what's causing it.

The stick symbol looks correct until you raise the joist up to sit on the beam. As soon as the joist seat gets raised the stick symbol ignores the cutback aspect. So as long as the joist, purlin, girder ties into the opposing member without being vertially offset the setback works. Otherwsie the cutback gets ignored.

I'm testing in 2013. See image.

First set your beams and joists to the same reference level.  Then use the "Z offset value" (not the start/end level offset) to offset the height of the joists.  This should give you the correct joist setback in plan.
