Ok, I have created ceilings at 8-feet above the floor. When I raise them only 1-inch they become hidden on the
cceiling plan. I have played with different View Range setting on the ceiling plan, but that doesn't help. What am I missing?

This has got to be a user error.
Make sure the ceiling is where you think it is. Cut a section! Sometimes you hit the foot mark instead of the inch.
If they are there and your view range is correct, then they will show,

Thanks for your help. I discovered a ceiling I had created eariler which was turned off in 3D but was hiding my new ceilings.

At the beginning, we all don't trust the software but after awhile you learn that Revit makes less mistakes than you do.
Existing views can have VG settings or things hidden as you found out. That's why it is always good to cut new views and look at what is there in an UN-adulterated model view.
