Hi: I am seeking feedback form new and experienced revit users. I own a small construction company specializing in Natural Building; traditional timberframing, strawbale, adobe, and sustainable/green materials. I have been hand drawing all my plans to now. I want to switch to a computer based system and have been working with other local architects who are using autocad2000. I am willing to put some time and $ into my training and development, but want to be able to get into creating constuction drawings ASAP Compared to autocad what does it take to learn revit "off the couch"? Considering what I am going to be doing, 8-12 sheet construction sets, some 3D, the ability to create non-conventional wall and framing systems(18" thick straw bale walls, lots of use of dimensional lumber). I am looking for perspective from you out there doing it as apposed the autodesk retailer salespeople. And what will it take in time and process to get to a place where I can develop the skills to create construction drawings. Thanks so much in advance for anyone willing to give me some feedback here. Yours, Eric

Eric, If you haven't already checkout the www.Augi.com forums. I seem to remember people who are doing exactly what you are proposing in revit now. The benefits over AutoCAD are too numerous to mention and the learning curve on revit is one of the easiest out there from the experience i've had. I'd suggest downloading revit and taking advantage of the 30 day trial period to document a project and decide for yourself if the tool is right for you. And there are plenty of us on the numerous forums to answer your questions should you get stumped or need to know the best way of going about a certain task. HTH. Good Luck.

Eric, Once you join the AUGI forums private message KingBlads. He does exactly what your proposing in revit and wins awards to boot... Smile
