I'm about ready to scream here!!!

Back in earlier versions of Revit there was a Area Ledgend feature that would color code the area plan and it was easy from what I remember. Now in 2014 I can't figure this out at all. I have a gross area plan and some of my rooms bounded but where is the color coded ledgend hiding??

Any help appreciated

Thanks,

Karl

"oh well back to Autocad!"

Good luck with that.   I'm not sure what is so confusing I don't think its any different than the last few releases 2011-13.  You create your areas by using the area bounary or area command on the Architecture tab, then add a color fill legend under the Annotate>Color Fill. Once you place the legend you can click on it and Edit Scheme and add whatever colors and area types you want.

Yesterday did not work out all that great... I had my client screaming and Revit was not cooperating! I did my usuall go to export revit to cad do the takeoffs and call it good. Had a clear head today and actually got it to work!

Thanks for the replies,

Karl

Glad to hear you got it to work...However "I did my usuall go to export revit to cad do the takeoffs and call it good" isn't good practice and a very bad habit to get in.  Clients can be rough but you have to remember the more you use Revit the better you get.

Actually, you have it completely backwards: we are in the BUSINESS of SELLING clients what they want/need; NOT in the business of producing 'pure' Revit files which would get a standing ovation among reviteers.

(Yes, *of course* I agree with your point that to get better at Revit you have to use Revit.  BUT (yes, that is my big butt), Revit is NOT a program which addresses all our ACTUAL needs totally successfully, sorry, it do not.  AND, when you have a screaming client, YOU DO WHAT IS NECESSARY TO GET THE DELIVERABLES OUT THE DOOR.  If that means export to CAD and slap the sheet out, THAT is what you do.)

This is the same 'purity' mindset which infects a LOT of people in the biz.  They have a plot they forgot to put 'X' on, and instead of just taking the curse plot and a pen and marking 'X' on it, they go through an exercise of getting back in the file and putting 'X' on it and re-plotting.  Waste of time/resources.  Just put the curse 'X' on it and be done with it.

charleyy,

You have it wrong.  This is not an issue of purity.  Teafoe is very correct in stating that it's a bad habit to "just get it done".  It takes awhile to get there but you need to develop good Revit practice so that your output can be trusted for accuracy and being complete.  It is irresponsible and not even efficient to fudge like users did with CAD.

I am creating my first area plan.  I have placed the boxes for the area plan, but can't get the area tag to work.  It says I currently don't have any area tags loaded.  So I go to load one and I don't have any in the standard Revit libary.  I looked in the downloads on RevitCity, but none of them tags that appeared are Area Tags. I tried loading a room tag, but it didn't work.  Any help would be great!  Thanks!
