We're converting a project from CAD to Revit and I inherited a DWG of a complex building section. We don't have the time or fee to model this portion of the building and I need to edit the building section. I don't know AutoCAD, so converted it to Revit and it looks great. For reasons not worth getting into, rather than bring it into the main model, I'd like to keep it as a separate Revit file/model and link to it using the Link Revit command. I'm finding this won't work for me. Linking to a Revit file only brings in model elements, but not detail items? Am I missing something?

I don't see how you can do what you want.

You do know that you can cut a model section, then turn off all model elements in VG and copy paste your entire view in?

you can control the visibility of linked models using,

VG / Revit links / display settings

if you select by linked view , you can select a view from your linked file to be displayed.

Hope this helps!

Dafpty,

Please take a look at what views are available with linked by view.   You will find this is very limited.
