I've worked on a number of BIM/Revit projects where Workset Management has been very important for one reason or another. I wondered what peoples thoughts were on a good & efficient Workset Management system that ensures everything all elements are kept on the correct workset before the model is issued.

My current system:

I set 3D working views up that have filters applied. Say I want all elements on L1 to be on the L1 workset (as an example). I'd have a filter that says 'if not equal to' 'L1' make it's surface and cut patterns red. Then in my 3D I visibly see if a another user has missed something. Obviously you can grab and filter all elements and bulk change them to the correct workset..sometimes..though I this appears to be a more full proof way.

Does anyone else have any other suggestions ?

While I do like worksets ... I totally agree with what Steve Stafford writes here:

http://revitoped.blogspot.com/2012/04/how-many-worksets-do-i-need.html

If you have to do a lot of special things to manage your worksets, you may have too many.

Good article and for the most part I agree with the items raised. I would not use worskets to control the visibility of categories and would only use them to control visbility when filters are not the best option. Primarly they are used to save RAM.

I only ever use a few worksets, though this still needs to be managed and it's easy for users to place elements on the wrong workset.
