Hi all, I'm just trying to edit the default Elevation tag from revit by editing both the elevation body circle and elevation pointer (the default ones from Revit. I've had a bit of a snag, with the pointer family that is nested into the body circle family. Within the pointer family, I'm trying to add dimension parameters to the radius of the pointer so that I can resize them by tweaking the parameters instead of importing a whole new pointer family of different sizes and nest all of them into the body circle family. My idea was to have a radius parameter in the pointer family and have that tagged with the radius parameter on the body circle file.
My problem with the pointer family is that although I can add the dimension parameter on the reference lines, I am unable to align/lock the detail lines or filled region with the reference lines. The usual error messages such as over-constraints would appear. Otherwise the reference lines react according to the values of the dimension parameters. Can someone explain why this happens? Is it just one of the many mysteries of Revit that I'm experiencing? Thanks for reading!

No problem mate!
So I have the reference lines on the pointer to work ok and its dimensions react according to the changes of the parameters. The tricky part with the detail lines and the fill region is that you cannot simply just "pick lines" and "lock" them. You'd have to manually draw them in and align the end points of the detail lines or the filled region sketch lines to where the reference lines meet. I found that just simply aligning them didn't work as well, which was a bit odd considering all my other families that I built this way were ok. The hard part I suppose was the part where there I had to align a curved sketch to a curved reference line, but I used the same method described previously and applied the same dimensional parameters to its radius, so that worked out ok.
So all I had to do now was nest this pointer family into a body circle family and have its "radius parameter" tagged with the body circle radius parameter. Then lastly create duplicates and simply adjust the parameters without having to create multiple families. Quite simple really.
