I recently downloaded the update to revit. I am currently using it for school. When I go to open a file from my flashdrive, it says to open this file, Windows needs to know what program you want to use to open it. I have Revit installed, so when I open Revit and then click the file to open it, it opens.  Why do I have to open Revit to get the file to open, instead of just clicking on it. That never happened with the 2012 program.

It is best practice in Revit to always open the program first and it has been that for a long time.

Part of the reason for this is multiple revit programs installed.  I am often working in two different (sometimes 3) Revit versions and Revit will always try to open a clicked on file with the version that was last used.  If I was opening a 2012 file but had last used 2013, Revit would upgrade it and I might not realize it.

Another, more recent problem, is what you experienced.  And sometimes when you use the click method,  the file opens but it seems to be corrupted.
