From the manual:
"One of the powerful features of Revit Building is its ability to highlight a selection. When you move the cursor near an element or a reference, Revit Building highlights it...."
I find this to be a distraction and can't seem to get used to it. Perhaps it is because I don't use Revit exclusively. Is there a way to control this behavior, toggling it on when it is needed?

AFAIK NO.
I actually like it than again I use Revit over 8 hours a day... :D
