I have an overhead rolling door that refuses to be opaque. I've gone into the family editor, neither transparency option for the opening is checked. The visual styles aren't checked to be transparent. Any other ideas? Other doors are displaying properly, just this group of doors.

This is in Revit 2012.

In the door family, is the 3D door extrusion set to show how?

I don't think I fully understand your question. Show how what?

There are so many possibilities.

  1. How the family was built
  2. Design options
  3. Phases
  4. Filters
  5. VG in the view
  6. Element Over-rides

And I forgot - Is the door hidden in view or in a different workset that is off.

1. How the family was built:

I grabbed the family from HERE: http://www.revitcity.com/downloads.php?action=view&object_id=2037

2. Design Option:

I don't have any set here

3. Phases

Everything is set to the same phase

4. Filters

I'm not sure on this one, but I don't think I have any set

5. VG in the view

I've checked and double checked, altered and reset this in every view. Doesn't have any effect

6. Element overrides

    Same as above, no effect.

All the doors were showing properly when I started this morning. I made some adjustments to the walls, now these doors don't show in elevation, but do in 3D. Also, the regular, stock single flush doors aren't displaying their door swings in elevation. I don't know if that's related at all.

There is really not a whole lot of helpful information to give you a good answer.  As WWhub said it could be a multitude of things and the fact that you are having other visability issues now leads me to believe it is a problem in your project and not with the family.  You need to figure out what changes were made that made the doors disappear.  If they are showing properly in 3D then it is most likely a viability error in the view.  Have you tried just closing and restarting Revt?  Sometimes this helps.

Also - Place the same family beside your disappearing family and see if that shows.  If it does, then it is an individual element problem or over-ride.  If it doesn't then ???

Also try a new elevation and see what happens

Making a new elevation worked. Any chance I can therefore fix the original one? Or will I have to redo all the adjustments?

Thank you!!

It may have been a corrupted view.

What do you need to transfer?  You can window the entire view and copy / paste all 2D elements in one operation.

Ok.. after coming back to it today, it turns out that making a new elevation didn't actually work. If I adjust the far clip plane, the doors disappear again. I think I can adjust the individual views to make it look correct, but I'm curious if there is any fix for it?

Fix what?

Obviously this family doesn't like where you are setting the far clipping plane.  Look at your far clipping plane in plan view and you may see what your problem is.  Post the image showing that if you don't.

I too just noticed the same problem in a small project. my issue pertains to transparent door slabs and glass panes in section/elevation views.

also, in sections i have  "objects behind other objects" mask the "other objects as if the behind objects we infront"

very strange,.  it would appear that the only thing to do it copy paste your model elements into a clean file then test.

note i tested the families and they are not the culperate.

please advise

solved

reset / use a different "default View Template".

turns out i had a variant of the floor plan view template copied and renamed as my section view template.

problem solved

These posibilities (below) mayybe viable options but not guaranteed, tried but no luck..

  1. How the family was built
  2. Design options
  3. Phases
  4. Filters
  5. VG in the view
  6. Element Over-rides
