I made a family that will have have several family types (in the attached file types 1-5). Some of the type parameters (such as those associated with window placement and width) will be adjusted for each family type, but other paramters (such as panel depth, or frame _width, etc.) will stay the same across all the family types. I'm trying to set it up so that I can link up parameters that will always be the same. For example, if I load this family into a project and if I decide to change the panel depth, I would like to be able to make the change to only one of the family types and have the change be reflected across all 5 types. Does anyone have suggestions on the best approach to do this?

can create your family this way?

panel depth, or frame _width ------ type parameter

parameter associated with window placement and width ------- instance parameter

you will have only one panel type in this case

use mark/comments (instance parameter) as your type name to differentiate each type of instance( i mean key-in P01 P02 in here)

for scheduling and tagging --- modify them to pick-up mark/comments (P01 P02) as ur type

duplicate of mark and comments can be ignored

Thank you for your reply. In my case however, I have many of each panel type (lets just say 50). If I make the parameters associated with window placement and size instance parameters,  I'd have to go into all 50 panels and change each one if I ever wanted to adjust these parameters...

Someone else suggested inputing the value for the paramter in the formula column of my family editor, so that it can only be modified in the family editor. Once I load it back into the project, any modification will be applied across all instances of that family. This seems to be a good solution.
