I created a simple extrusion for a mirror. I applied the out of the box mirror material to the extrusion and it does not reflect whatsoever in a rendered view. I've toggled the reflectivity of the material, but there doesnt seem to be anything else that would make this function properly. I've also tried downloading a mirror and it also does not work. What am I missing?

Did you make the mirror as an in-place family? Make sure that the material is correct in the PROJECT and not just in the family itself

If you painted it on, you may have applied it to the wrong face.
A mirror will NOT reflect anything behind the camera plane.

The material was applied in the project. I did not do anything to the material other than select "Mirror" material. What could be wrong in the material? I think you hit on one issue with not reflecting behind the camera plane, but I also tried different angles and still no luck.

Don't you think 1% reflectivity is a little low? Try 100

I tried that setting. The values can only be set from 0.00 - 1.00. I've tried both extremes and still no reflections.

OK, I see now that they changed this setting values in 2013.
I did a quick test and the stock mirror works just fine so something else wrong in your model or process.

What were your settings for the material? I don't what else would be wrong in the model. If the material reflects it relfects. Unless the setting for the material has some issue, or there is a rendering setting somewhere that turns off reflections (I' don't know if there is such a thing). In terms of process, if I created an in-place mass that is extruded from the floor level and I apply the material to it, what would cause the material to not work properly?

Old thread I know but it applies I think:
When in Realistic mode how can I make the mirror appear more white instead of black?

have looked at manage-> materials in project. have looked at materials in the family editor.
have changed RGB allocations in materials - still comes out black.
