Every now and then Revit is crashing on me (Architecture 2012) when it makes a recovery file this always seems to be smaller than the original file eg. My current file is 93mb, it jsut crashed and made a recovery of 88mb. The recovery file looks to still have everything in place but it's hard to know without manually checking through every view etc. Any idea what the 5mb less could account for? Am I safe to continue the recovery file as my current file?

Yes you are 100% safe to use that file. Not only recovery files even if you "save as" a working file you will see the size is reduced for both independent files and central files.
